Mike represents different types of policyholders in insurance coverage disputes, ranging from small-business owners under standard commercial general liability policies to large, corporate entities under manuscript business policies including specialized coverages such as errors and omissions, business income loss, or directors and officers. Some notable disputes resolved favorably for his client’s involved large-scale losses to business income and property due to Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Harvey. Mike also routinely represents property owners in their defenses of premises-liability and toxic-tort claims.

Even with today’s commercial legal disputes generating never-before-seen amounts of data and much of the legal community adopting technology-assisted and automated everything, Mike still embraces an individualized approach to clients’ unique issues. He recognizes that the wants, needs, and objectives of each client require a personalized strategy. In generating such a strategy, Mike brings to bear his attention to detail and an eye for issue-spotting, refined by years of litigating matters through all their pre-trial phases. From his years of litigating, he has also gained an appreciation of the value of preventing disputes from arising in the first place or, where possible, resolving disputes quickly by alternative means. Accordingly, Mike regularly consults with clients and offers advice regarding risk management, insurance coverage analyses, internal compliance, and contract drafting.

Mike is a partner in the Chicago-area office and has been with Pellis Law Group since its inception. He follows developments in eDiscovery, cybersecurity, and consumer privacy laws, including Illinois’ Biometric Information and Privacy Act and similar emerging laws.
