Michael is a partner in the firm’s Chicago-area office. He has diverse litigation experience representing corporate, financial, manufacturing, and construction entities in various complex cases and throughout all aspects of litigation, including dispositive motion practice. Michael also has extensive experience with settlement efforts, especially mediation.

Michael was a valuable member of the team that litigated a large-scale insurance recovery and coverage action for a publicly traded manufacturing company. Multiple insurers had issued general liability insurance policies without asbestos exclusions to the company but then refused to defend it against thousands of underlying asbestos-related lawsuits. Michael has also been instrumental in pursuing insurance coverage for an aggregate quarry company involving multiple pollution legal liability policies. The insurer had refused to defend its policyholder against underlying environmental contamination claims alleging bodily injury and property damage. While the insurer initially denied coverage based on an exclusion in the policy, Michael successfully argued that the endorsement properly disclosed the pollution event and ensured the policyholder’s coverage. Michael also has extensive experience securing coverage under directors’ and officers’ insurance policies for clients in the financial services sector.

Michael regularly defends our clients in the chemical and manufacturing industries against personal injury and premises liability claims filed by third parties and has favorably disposed of several of these matters on summary judgment. He is involved in a variety of risk management matters for the firm’s clients, including a large-scale acid overspray at an oil refinery, as well as an excess release of industrial emissions.

Michael has handled matters in state and federal courts in Illinois, New York, California, Florida, and Texas and has also appeared before various state agencies and regulatory bodies.
